HTMT2–an improved criterion for assessing discriminant validity in structural equation modeling

چکیده

Purpose One popular method to assess discriminant validity in structural equation modeling is the heterotrait-monotrait ratio of correlations (HTMT). However, HTMT assumes tau-equivalent measurement models, which are unlikely hold for most empirical studies. To relax this assumption, authors modify original and introduce a new consistent measure congeneric models: HTMT2. Design/methodology/approach The HTMT2 designed analogy but relies on geometric mean instead arithmetic mean. A Monte Carlo simulation compares performance In simulation, several design factors varied such as loading patterns, sample sizes inter-construct order compare estimation bias two criteria. Findings provides less biased estimations among latent variables compared HTMT, particular if indicators patterns heterogeneous. Consequently, should be preferred over case models. Research limitations/implications can only determined all between involved observable positive. Originality/value This paper introduces an improved version traditional HTMT. Compared other approaches assessing validity, advantages: (1) ease its computation, since based indicator correlations, (2) relaxed assumption tau-equivalence. highly recommend criterion

A new criterion for assessing discriminant validity in variance-based structural equation modeling

Discriminant validity assessment has become a generally accepted prerequisite for analyzing relationships between latent variables. For variance-based structural equation modeling, such as partial least squares, the FornellLarcker criterion and the examination of cross-loadings are the dominant approaches for evaluating discriminant validity. By means of a simulation study, we show that these a...

A Criterion for Parameter Identification in Structural Equation Models

This paper deals with the problem of identifying direct causal effects in recursive linear structural equation models. The paper establishes a sufficient criterion for identifying individual causal effects and provides a procedure computing identified causal effects in terms of observed covariance matrix.

Discriminant Validity Assessment: Use of Fornell & Larcker criterion versus HTMT Criterion

Assessment of discriminant validity is a must in any research that involves latent variables for the prevention of multicollinearity issues. Fornell and Larcker criterion is the most widely used method for this purpose. However, a new method has emerged for establishing the discriminant validity assessment through heterotrait-monotrait (HTMT) ratio of correlations method. Therefore, this articl...

Analysis of sport for all in Iran, with Application of Structural Equation Modeling

The essence of science is to build comprehensives model rather than scattered data, because the data in form of modeles can be discovered, explained and interpreted. The lack of reliable models in sport, and in particular, sport for all, encouraged the researcher to achieve a model for sport for all in Iran. The aim of the present study is to propose a model to measure and analyze the sport ...

Structural Equation Modeling

This chapter provides an introduction to structural equation modeling (SEM), a statistical technique that allows scientists and researchers to quantify and test scientific theories. As an example, a model from behavioral genetics is examined, in which genetic and environmental influences on a trait are determined. The many procedures and considerations involved in SEM are outlined and described...
